Science In A Box Projest Launched

KS3 Students with ConnectEd have been piloting a new approach to Science. Students have been supplied with boxes containing all they need to carry out investigative work in science. The Scheme, known as ‘Science in a Box’ enables students working at home to have the practical experience of scientific investigations. The materials and experiments have been carefully selected so that students can work independently as well as directed by their teacher while in the virtual classroom.

The response from the students has been fantastic. They are keen to carry out the set tasks and will often carry on experimenting long after the lesson has finished. The Scheme will be extended to cover as many aspects of the Science curriculum as possible.

'I have loved science in a box. It makes science a lot more interesting. I have had great fun with the experiments and have shown my parents and sister what I have been doing. I have also tried experiments outside of lesson. Being able to do the experiments has given me more of an understanding of the way things work, because I have been able to do it for myself. I have always loved science and feel that before we had the box that I was missing a lot of hands on experience that helps me to put together what I have learnt in a way that makes sence to me. My parents think science in a box is great and have enjoyed watching the experiments happen. I would love for the scheme to grow, it will give me the help to grow in a subject I love.' Connor: Yr 8
